Who can get Bereavement Support Payment?
A surviving partner under State Pension age, after a death, if the National Insurance conditions are met. It is time-limited. A higher rate can apply if you get Child Benefit. It is not a pension and it is not means-tested.
- Claim within the time limit on GOV.UK. This check does not know the date of death.
- Widowed Parent’s Allowance is the older scheme. A new death uses Bereavement Support Payment.
