Answers · Question
Can I get PIP for anxiety or depression?
Yes, if the condition affects the tasks. PIP is not a list of allowed illnesses. Anxiety, depression and other mental health conditions are scored on the same 12 activities as a physical condition, using the same reliability tests and the same rule of more than half of days.
- The tasks where this often matters are engaging with other people, planning a journey, preparing food, managing therapy, and budgeting. It still has to be true of your days, not of the diagnosis in general.
- A fit note is not a PIP award. The form still has to describe the tasks.
How to describe it
Write what happens when you try the task: leaving the house, speaking to a stranger, cooking while distressed, taking medication. Include how many days, and what another person does.
Prompts, supervision and someone coming with you count as help. Say so in plain words.
