Healthy Start or Best Start?

England, Wales and Northern Ireland use Healthy Start. Scotland uses Best Start Foods and the Best Start Grant. Do not claim the English and Scottish schemes for the same address.

  • Healthy Start needs a qualifying benefit and a pregnancy or a child under 4.
  • Sure Start Maternity Grant is usually £500 and usually only for a first child. The Best Start Grant can pay more than once.
