How much is Child Benefit?

At the April 2026 rates used in this catalogue, Child Benefit is £27.05 a week for the eldest child and £17.90 a week for each other child. Confirm those figures on GOV.UK before you rely on a yearly total.

  • It is not means-tested. If someone in the household earns over £60,000, a High Income Child Benefit Charge can take some or all of it back through tax. The claim can still be made, and it protects National Insurance credits.
  • Only one person can get Child Benefit for a child.
