How much is Universal Credit?

There is no single Universal Credit amount. The monthly standard allowance depends on your age and on whether you claim alone or with a partner. Elements for children, rent, childcare or caring are added on top, then wages reduce what is left. Savings of £16,000 or more stop the claim.

  • This check can show an indicative upper band from the facts you enter. It does not look up the Local Housing Allowance, so a rent figure on the check is not the housing element.
  • The four standard allowances are published on GOV.UK. Use that page for the monthly pounds. Do not treat a third-party table as the award.

What changes the amount

Under 25 and 25 or over are different rates. A couple is not twice a single person.

Wages reduce the payment. The taper and the work allowance are on GOV.UK. This site does not invent a pence-in-the-pound figure.

Savings between £6,000 and £16,000 reduce the payment. £16,000 or more usually ends it.

What it is not

It is not Pension Credit. A household where both people are over State Pension age uses Pension Credit, and Housing Benefit if they rent.

It is not paid to a person with no recourse to public funds, or to a person on asylum support.
