How do I claim Pension Credit?
Claim on GOV.UK or by phone, once you have reached State Pension age. A mixed-age couple, where one person is under that age, usually claims Universal Credit instead. Have National Insurance numbers, income, savings and housing details ready.
- If you rent and you are over State Pension age, ask about Housing Benefit as well. Universal Credit does not cover that household.
- Pension Credit can passport other help, including council tax support. The council still decides the council tax part.
