Can I get a Universal Credit advance?
Yes, once a Universal Credit claim is in. An advance is a loan against the first payment, which usually takes about five weeks. It is repaid from later Universal Credit. It is not extra money.
- A budgeting advance is different. It is for a one-off cost after you have been on Universal Credit for a minimum time, and savings of £1,000 or more usually stop it. The check does not know how long a claim has been open.
