Answers · Question
Universal Credit or Pension Credit?
Universal Credit is for a working-age household. Pension Credit is for a person who has reached State Pension age. If one person in a couple is under that age, the usual route is Universal Credit, not Pension Credit.
- State Pension itself is separate. It is paid from National Insurance, and it is not the same claim as Pension Credit.
- A person over State Pension age who rents may still need Housing Benefit. Universal Credit does not cover that household.
- Run the check with both ages. The catalogue does not guess a mixed-age couple beyond that rule.
