What are the 12 PIP activities?

There are 10 daily living activities and 2 mobility activities. They are preparing food, taking nutrition, managing therapy or monitoring a health condition, washing and bathing, managing toilet needs, dressing, communicating verbally, reading, engaging with other people face to face, making budgeting decisions, planning and following journeys, and moving around.

  • Each activity is scored on its own. The official descriptor wording and the points are in the PIP assessment guide, part 2.
  • You do not have to be unable to do the activity at all. Needing help, or an aid, to do it reliably can still score.

Daily living

These are the tasks inside a normal day: food, eating, treatment, washing, the toilet, clothes, being understood, reading a message, being with people, and money.

Eight points across these 10 pays the standard daily living rate. Twelve pays the enhanced rate.

Mobility

Planning and following a journey covers going out, including when anxiety or a cognitive condition stops the journey. Moving around covers walking.

These two are scored apart from daily living. Eight points pays the standard mobility rate. Twelve pays the enhanced rate.
