Who gets the Winter Fuel Payment?

It is a pension-age payment. This catalogue treats an income line around £35,000 as the point where it stops, and that line is taxable income, not the take-home figure on the check. Confirm this winter’s rule and the amount on GOV.UK. The check does not pay it.

  • You do not apply in the usual way if you already get State Pension or Pension Credit. Most people are paid automatically.
  • It is not the Cold Weather Payment. That one is £25 for each 7-day freeze in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and only if a qualifying benefit is already in payment.
